Now!
As soon as you were saved and the Holy Spirit entered you, you literally acquired the ability to live limitlessly.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom”— 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
Literally. 😎
Waiting Until I’m Perfect (the unattainable dream)
Have you ever said something like, “I’ll wear this dress once I’ve lost ten pounds.”
How about “I’ll put out the nice figurines once the house is how I want it.” Or maybe “I’ll learn this new skill once I have the money to buy this course!”
We’ve all said something along those lines or thought it before because it’s in our nature to procrastinate and to lie to ourselves.
I myself have said things like:
“I’ll go to in-person high school once I’ve hit my goal weight.”
Didn’t happen. (Suffered through 7 years of online school that I hated and wasn’t good at)
“I’ll have a sweet 16 once I’ve hit my goal weight and made some friends.”
Sweet 16 turned to sweet 17, then 18, and I gave up at 19 and started hating my birthday.
“I’ll go back to church when my anxiety is cured.”
God took it away, and I still didn’t go.
“I’ll get a job when I learn to do my hair so I don’t have to stress over it every morning.”
Never had a job. Still don’t know how to do my hair without it stressing me out lol.
Point is, I’m guilty of it, and I know you are too. How? Because it’s in our nature. We desire perfection, but we don’t desire the process to become perfect (aka follow Christ).
All these examples have one thing in common…
Lies.
We tell lies to ourselves constantly.
After being saved, I realized how often and how easily I used to lie and not just to myself but to others.
So I decided I was going to pay more attention and do my best to always tell the truth (though I’m careful in how I tell it because the truth isn’t always taken well😅).
It’s actually scary how easy lying came to me, especially when I realized that if it was so easy for me, then it was probably super easy for everyone else.
If your goal is to live limitlessly, you’ll have to stop lying to yourself and or attempting to lie, or more accurately, stop trying to hide the truth from God.
Perfection only exists through God! There has only ever been ONE human who was perfect, and guess who that was?!
Replace Those Lies With God’s Truth
Get over the idea that your house needs to be clean to invite God into it.
Think about it this way:
Was your temple (your body) “clean and perfect” before the Holy Spirit came to dwell there?
Or… did Jesus’s death and resurrection purify you so the Holy Spirit could have a “clean” dwelling place inside you?
God makes you clean. God makes you perfect. God makes you righteous. God makes you whole.
“There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”—Romans 3:10-12 (NIV)
But…
God made Him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”— 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)
Which means:
Our perfection is in Him.
We have become the righteousness of God because of Jesus Christ and His work on the cross! He gave us a new life!
No more feeling inadequate like the world, live in the new identity that Christ has given you through His sacrifice and resurrection! We are saved and sanctified!
When God looks at us, He sees His perfect Son who intercedes on our behalf.
The world wants you to feel like you’re too good for God but not enough for yourself.
God wants you to know, even though you aren’t “good enough,” He has always loved you and wanted you.
You can only start living limitlessly when you accept this.
Let go of the idea that it’s YOU who must make yourself “nice” for God. God makes you acceptable to Him.
To quote myself in part one of this series, “IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU!” and it never has been, that’s the good news!
So, take the Good News and RUN with it!
Stop trying to be enough and instead start asking God:
“Help me, Father, I know I’m not enough, but I know even more that You are!
Thank You for giving an imperfect me all Your perfect love!
Thank You for sending Your perfect Son to take on my shame and imperfection, die my death, and resurrect me with Him.
I pray that You will deepen my love for You so I may come to accept Your love for me!
In Your Son’s perfect and precious name,
Amen.
