What does it mean to Live Limitlessly?
That’s probably the question you asked yourself while reading the first part of this series. If not, that’s ok.
Maybe you already know, but you’re here for further encouragement and accountability.
Or… you’re here because you don’t know but you want to know.
I’ll make this super simple (mostly because it is simple, so there’s no other way to make it).
To live limitlessly is to decide that God will be the sovereign authority in every aspect of your life, spiritually, mentally, and physically, so that He then has the room to break all limitations on you.
Even more simply, living limitlessly = full faith in God.
If that sounds impossible, then good news, you’re in the right place!
Believing in God’s Limitlessness
The first step to full faith in God is belief. If you lack belief, that means you have unbelief you must first rectify. Take notes from this man in Mark 9:24:
“I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief!”
Go to God boldly in prayer and ask Him to “help your unbelief”. Once that is complete, proceed as if He’s done so, that very moment.
You will grow by living the faith, not just asking for it. Sort of like “faking it till you make it”!
Except eventually God will change your heart posture and your faith will undoubtedly deepen, and you probably won’t even realize it until that wonderful moment one day when you do!
I’ll admit, even I still pray this prayer because no matter how deep our faith, it can always grow deeper.
Think of your faith as spiritual roots. The tallest and strongest trees are the ones whose roots go deep. The deeper the roots go, the stronger you are. They create a solid foundation so that no matter the outside conditions, you will not waver.
Without belief in God’s limitlessness, you cannot possibly believe in your own limitlessness through Him!
So… pray this with me right now:
Lord God,
We humbly ask that you be the strengthener of our faith, that we may be deeply rooted in the confidence of your immeasurable power, and we break free of the strongholds of doubt.
Please, Father God, help our unbelief so we may be bold in our faith and love for You!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”– Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
The power of the Lord lives within you!
Believing in yourself (Trusting in God)
When I say believe in yourself, I’d like to make it very clear I’m not talking about it in a Disney way.
This isn’t about self-reliance but the belief that through God, you are capable of anything He calls you to do.
We talked a bit about this in part one of this series. Self-reliance is limited to what YOU can do, but God-reliance is limited to what GOD can do.
Self + reliance = limited
God + reliance = limitless
All of this is really very simple. So simple in fact that God reiterates this very message all throughout scripture.
- Proverbs 3:5-6
- Psalm 62:5-8
- Matthew 6:33
- Isaiah 41:10
- Philippians 4:13
- Jeremiah 29:11
- Romans 8:28
- Isaiah 40:29
- Etc.
My personal favorite:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in paths of righteousness for his names sake. yea , though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”– Psalms 23:1-6 (KJV)
Relying on God is the smartest, kindest, bestest thing you could do for yourself!
Because every plan with God prospers (note that “with God” means it’s His plan, not yours), and it means less stress, less failure, less disappointment, and less frustration.
Honestly, I’m angry with myself for not doing it sooner! 😤
Jesus says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light”— Matthew 11:30 (NIV)
Disclaimer before y’all start thinking this means “with God it’s easy and light work.”
No! What this means is “In the hard and heavy times in life, the hope and joy you have in God will give you rest spiritually, and even emotionally and physically at times.”
It’s an invitation to receive His reprieve through faith and love in Him.
Think of it like when you were doing chores as a kid and you would start grumbling about how hard it was, but then you’d be reminded of the allowance you get for it, and suddenly that makes the chore seem less like a chore.
Though multiply that feeling by infinity because God is much better than an allowance (although maybe not to a child, but it’s ok, they’ve got time to learn 😅).
It’s the same with God. Accept His invitation to enter into your life, and though there is a yoke, He will make it easy, and though a burden, He will make it light.
Now you may be thinking, “Well, that’s not believing in yourself!” Exactly!
Faith in God translates into faith in your works as He works through you.
So, no, it’s not a literal belief in yourself, but it is a reassurance of self that, as long as you put your faith in the one who actually knows what He is doing, then you will, in turn, figure out what to do because God will equip you to do it.
Make sense? 😄
Here are some examples in scripture:
Moses didn’t believe he could lead the slaves out of Egypt, but 40 years later, guess what he did?
David didn’t think he could be king, and yet he is regarded as the best king (before Jesus, ofc) and a man after God’s own heart!
Esther didn’t think she had the courage to speak up and save her people, but alas, that’s exactly what she did!
What did all of these people have in common?
Faith in God.
Repentance
There is no faith without freedom, and there is no freedom without repentance.
If you struggle with repentance because you are worried God will reject you, don’t be! God already forgave you; it’s up to you to repent and accept His forgiveness.
You can’t be limitless or experience God’s limitlessness if you are allowing sin to hold you down. Jesus defeated sin on the cross, and just as He resurrected, He has invited you to be resurrected with Him!
Allowing sin to stop you from accepting His forgiveness is like saying your sin is greater than He is. His forgiveness is a gift He gave us out of love and mercy. It’s dishonoring to reject it under the guise of “not being worthy”.
The only reason He needs to forgive you is because you’re not worthy!
When we are weak, He is strong. That’s the whole point!
So don’t hide from God, especially since that’s ridiculously impossible to do.
I mean, the message “Do Not Be Afraid” is cited in the Bible (depending on the translation) several hundred times!
I think that means God doesn’t want us to be afraid of Him. I don’t know 🤷🏽♀️ what do you think?
Jk! Of course, He doesn’t! If we are afraid of Him, then we can’t properly accept His love and grace.
We have to be able to trust Him.
So trust that God doesn’t want you to hide but instead invites you to come to Him boldly:
“Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may have mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.”– Hebrews 4:16 (CSB)
And assures us that He’s here for us:
“For I am the Lord your God, who holds your right hand, who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.”– Isaiah 41:13 (CSB)
How to repent:
- Pray for a genuinely repentant heart
- Lay all your sins out on the table
- Ask for forgiveness and restoration (meaning help to stay away from these sins and become someone who abhors them and hungers and thirsts for righteousness instead)
Walking the Faith (Doing the work)
I feel like I’m repeating myself sometimes when I explain biblical things, but then I realize that the Bible is literally the biggest sentiment repeater I’ve ever read!
It’s because remembering is something we tend to really suck at (excuse my French), especially remembering the things we need to remember.
I mean, we have literally four accounts of the same gospel! You’d think that was unnecessary, and yet every time I read them, I learn something new in each one or in how each correlates.
I say this to convey the idea that our faith needs to be reinforced constantly.
This is why the Word of God repeats Himself; this is why we are called to “pray without ceasing”, this is why we are told to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and even to be like children in our faith.
Those are all ways to reinforce our faith!
We must stay focused because it’s too easy to get distracted by the things of this world, and worse yet, satan is counting on it, waiting to pounce as soon as we take our eyes off Christ.
Now, I believe there is a difference between walking BY faith and walking IN faith (this could literally just be me and how my wacky brain works, but I’m going to share it with you anyway 😘)
Walking BY faith is about stepping out in obedience to God, even when you’re unsure. This shows trust in God.
Walking IN faith, however, at least to me, is like walking through a forest of faith reinforcements.
Let me explain, trusting God is being faithful (aka walking BY faith), but actively building upon your faith through reinforcing behavior like praying, renewing our minds, and being like children, etc, etc, is what I believe to be walking IN faith.
(Hopefully that makes sense 😅)
Recap and Closing
So what does it mean to live limitlessly?
Well, it means to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength (Matthew 22:37) and to trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Him so He may direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5)
To put it simply:
- Believe God
- Trust God
- Repent
- Do the work
Prayer for you
Dear Lord,
Hallowed be thy name, your name alone is Holy and Righteous, praise be to God Almighty!
Today I put my faith, my trust, and my hope in You. I ask that You be faithful to me in keeping me faithful to You in all that I do. That You remind me of Your limitless power, which resides in me, and that I do not take for granted but humbly seek to honor and glorify.
Strip me of any sin that threatens to steal my belief, hope, or joy in You, and I ask that You protect me from the evil one. I ask for forgiveness of sins known to me and unknown to me, and that You create in me a genuinely repentant heart.
Fix my eyes on Your Son, Jesus Christ, and give me the discipline and strength to pick up my cross and follow Him. Every day I give thanks to You and praise Your name!
Amen.
